The benefits of dry brushing

What is dry brushing?

Dry skin brushing is an ancient natural beauty ritual that offers numerous benefits. The main function is to promote lymphatic circulation, which is very important for the overall health. It also helps break down toxins stored in the body, it removes dead skin cells, and brings more oxygen to our cells, leaving them re-energised. When combined with regular exercise and/or yoga, dry brushing is a recommended practice for everyone and is particularly effective in reducing cellulite. It is also a great way to wake your body up in the morning and to increase your circulation, which can be beneficial for people who are feeling cold.

What is lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system is the body’s primary immune network, which is design to remove the waste products from the body. Our sedentary lifestyles and general lack of movement can cause it to become stagnant and blocked. Since many of the lymphatic vessels are situated just below the skin, dry brushing is recommended to stimulate this process, preventing congestion and toxin build-up. And if you are looking for a smooth and soft skin, dry skin brushing can help to exfoliate it.

How to use dry skin brush?

To dry brush, all you need is a natural hard bristle brush. The brush should have firm bristles, and a long handle is useful for reaching your back. Smaller brushes are also available for more delicate and easier to reach places. In the morning, just before the shower, brush your whole body with long strokes on dry skin. Start with your feet, moving the brush upward with firm pressure. Use straight lines over long bones. Apply circular motions around joints. If you can, spend extra time on areas like the thighs and buttocks, which tend to accumulate more fat and toxins. As you move up your body, continue brushing upward on your arms and remember to always brush towards the heart. Avoid using the brush on your face. This routine should last about 5 minutes. Regular lymphatic drainage massage once a month, is a great addition.
