Do you need to grind your chia seeds?

Chia, known for over 5,000 years, is a plant with incredible nutritional potential. It’s rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, including Omega 3 and Omega 6, as well as soluble fiber, plant protein, and phytochemicals.

Chia seeds are primarily valued for their essential fatty acids, but to fully access the Omega 3 benefits, studies suggest that grinding the seeds is necessary. Sprinkling ground chia seeds on oatmeal or salads is an easy way to incorporate them into your diet. However, one of the most popular ways to enjoy chia these days is in a chia pudding, where whole seeds are typically used.

Don’t worry—soaking the seeds also seems to help release their nutrients to some extent. The best approach? Mix it up! Use both ground and soaked chia seeds and enjoy them however you like!
